Found in the southern part of Bwindi, Rushaga is the most popular gorilla trekking sector because it has the highest concentration of habituated mountain gorilla families in Uganda. This means visitors often have greater flexibility when booking permits, especially during peak travel seasons.
Rushaga is also the only sector where travelers can experience the extraordinary Gorilla Habituation Experience, allowing visitors to spend up to four hours with a semi-habituated gorilla family alongside researchers and rangers.
The landscape in Rushaga consists of rolling hills, thick rainforest, and spectacular viewpoints overlooking the Virunga Volcanoes. Trekking difficulty varies, with some gorilla families requiring only short walks while others involve longer hikes across rugged terrain.
Its variety of lodges, ranging from budget to luxury, makes Rushaga a popular choice for many travelers.
